There are three grain elevators in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan – one former Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and two former Pioneer elevators. The train station is also preserved but no trains run here any more.
Historical Photos of Shellbrook
This amazing aerial photo of Shellbrook, SK shows five grain elevators were present in the 1950s. Left to right are: Pioneer, Pioneer, Searle, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and Federal. Note the mixed passenger train at the train station.
Compare that with the photo below, also from the McPhail collection at the University of Saskatchewan. This one has six grain elevators and presumably was taken earlier than the photo above. There was another elevator between the Searle and the first Pioneer elevator.
One more photo from the McPhail collection. This shows the six elevators as Pioneer, Pool, Pioneer, Searle, Pool, Federal.
The following two photographs were taken in Shellbrook on August 23, 1982 by an unknown photographer. The first shows the Pioneer grain elevator with cylindrical Government of Canada grain hoppers.
The next photo shows the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool “B” grain elevator, with CN grain boxcars.
